Dental emergencies aren't fun, and they normally don't occur during the most convenient time. Therefore, we work with you to help you quickly. Here are some of the most common dental emergencies:

  • Pain with hot and cold
  • Gum pain
  • Tooth pain
  • Mouth sores
  • Fractured tooth
  • Cracked tooth
  • Bleeding
  • Swelling

As your emergency dentist in Kansas City, we do whatever it takes to get you into the office quickly during next available office hours!

Here are a few things you should do as you consider an emergency visit to KC Family Dental:

  1. If you believe you have a fractured jaw or are suffering from a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.
  2. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain. Consider applying an ice pack for up to 20 minutes each hour.
  3. Use campho-phenique, Orajel, and other OTC medicines to ease mouth sores. They put a protective film over that area.
  4. Soft tissue injuries (bitten tongues and lips) can be eased by applying pressure or ice.
  5. If you've recently received an extraction and are now bleeding, use a folded gauze pad and apply pressure to the site. You may want to also soak a tea bag, wrap it in a thin gauze layer, and apply that with pressure for about an hour.
  6. For chipped teeth, use soft wax over the broken area. Keep the chip, put it in some milk or water with a pinch of salt.
  7. Put back a knocked-out adult tooth and hold it in place until you get to us. If that's not possible, put it in water or milk.
